homeowner's association
An association of people who own homes in a given area, formed for the purpose of improving or maintaining the quality of the area. An association formed by a land developer or the builder of condominiums or planned unit developments to provide management for and maintenance of property in which they own undivided, common interest. The builder's participation as well as the duties of the association are controlled by statute in certain states. Such non-profit associations are commonly formed pursuant to a restrictive covenant or a declaration of restrictions
